Julie Masci  – Director and Dietitian

Special Interest Areas:

  • Weight Management – I especially love to work with those who are difficult ‘losers’ and individuals with hormonal conditions such as menopause, PCOS and insulin resistance.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues – I love all things ‘gut’ related – fixing any symptoms associated with the gut is my passion.  I believe the gut is the true heart of the body. Addressing problems in the gastrointestinal system will often help many other concerns in the body!
  • Food Intolerances – Using evidence based techniques, I will help you to investigate potential food intolerances to eliminate unwanted symptoms.
  • Integrative and Holistic Nutrition – I look for the root cause of issues and address these through solid nutrition principles.  I think outside the box to help you to understand your body better and ultimately feel better too.

A little more about Julie…

Julie Masci is a practising dietitian, accredited with the Dietitians Association of Australia. She is the director and principal of New Life Nutrition, a Brisbane-based private dietitian practice.

With Italian blood pumping through her veins, food has always been a major focus in Julie’s life – embarking on a career in nutrition and dietetics seemed only natural. Julie believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience the pleasures of food, while also staying healthy, and looking and feeling great.

Julie works to provide realistic diet and lifestyle changes to assist in weight loss for people of all ages, and to manage associated chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. Throughout her career as a dietitian, Julie has worked with a wide range of doctors and specialists, finely tuning her knowledge and expertise in health improvement.

Julie’s special interest in gastrointestinal disorders (including irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS) and food intolerance stems from her own personal experiences in this area. She aims to help clients identify and manage individual food sensitivities using proven techniques. Julie strongly believes that relief from long-standing food-related symptoms can improve a patient’s understanding and appreciation of both their body and their mind.

Appearing on Brisbane’s televisions as an expert dietitian on Channel 9 News, Channel 7 News, Today Tonight and Brisbane Extra, Julie explains nutrition and helps debunk diet myths. She also has extensive experience as a public speaker, engaging seminar and lecture audiences in conversations about obesity, diabetes and coeliac disease.

With an appreciation of culture and individuality, as well as a contagious enthusiasm for good food, Julie brings a fresh approach to the field of nutrition and dietetics. She strives to motivate and provide friendly guidance to her patients as they move towards achieving their individual health and nutrition goals. Julie passionately believes every patient’s outlook on and approach to life can be improved by what and how they eat, and she will stop at nothing to ensure her patients’ continued success, health and happiness.

Julie is currently on Maternity Leave and will return in early 2020.

Kate Feely – Dietitian & Sports Dietitian

  • Sports Nutrition – with a background in middle distance and endurance running Kate knows personally how important nutrition is for training and competition performance. She has worked with athletes ranging from beginners to elite level in endurance running, track & field, triathlon/Ironman, swimming, AFL, Rugby and Gymnastics.
  • Gut health – Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Coeliac Disease.

Kate has had an interest in nutrition starting back in her school days. She was running at National level and saw a Sports Dietitian who provided guidance on nutrition around training and competition. This highlighted to Kate the strong links between nutrition and sports performance, as well as general health and wellbeing.

Kate has worked in clinics specialising in teenage and young adult mental health, including eating disorders. She enjoys the challenge of working with these clients and improving their relationship with food. Kate finds the link between gut health, nutrition and mental health fascinating, and enjoys working on these areas with clients to get results.

Kate is a passionate and approachable Dietitian who loves the opportunity to work with clients to improve their nutrition – whether it be for sports performance, body composition changes, gut health, mental health or general healthy eating.

In her personal time you will find Kate training for her next half marathon or triathlon, out for brunch or enjoying some sunshine at the beach.

Hannah Brereton – Dietitian & Sports Nutritionist

  • Sports Nutrition – With a background in running and athletics myself, I particularly love working with clients participating in endurance events, athletics and altering body composition for any sport, fight or confidence.
  • Mental Health – Through lived experience I am passionate about helping anyone living with an eating disorder or struggling with emotional eating.
  • Gut Health – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Heart Health – Cholesterol Management

Hannah is invested in your goals. Whether they be shaving a few extra minutes off your race
time, lowering your cholesterol or feeling confident in your body, she will go the extra mile
to ensure you get there.

Hannah has worked with clients at all levels of sport, from those new to the health to
athletes competing at a national level. Hannah believes in taking a holistic approach and
understanding how lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress, medical factors, training history
etc effect your food choices and nutritional needs.

One of Hannah’s passions is mental health. Food more than just nutrients and calories – it’s
memories, social, cultural etc. It can drive feelings of joy, anxiety, excitement and guilt.

Through lived experience with an eating disorder, she understands that the reason why we
eat is often more important for sustainable change than what we eat. Hannah will work
with you to help you understand your eating patterns and develop a strategy that
incorporates practical changes with building mindset skills to ensure that these changes last
through all of life’s ups and downs (the kinds of times when the ‘diet’ would go out the
window).

Her goal is to ensure that you leave sessions feeling excited to see what your body can do
and confident that you will achieve your goals!

Hannah is available for general nutrition appointments or sports-specific sessions as part of
our Sports Nutrition Program.

Brittany Kelly – Dietitian

Nutrition has been a passion of Brittany’s for a long time, well before she had even graduated high school. This interest stemmed from her experience in competitive sport, where she began noticing the strong links between nutrition and general wellbeing, performance and cognition. Combined with her strong desire to help others feel their best, it was only natural that Brittany pursued a Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and Master of Dietetics Studies at the University of Queensland to become an Accredited Practising Dietitian.

Brittany strongly believes in a holistic approach to health. Factors such as sleep, stress, physical activity, environment, feelings and beliefs and their impact on an individual’s nutritional status and dietary patterns are all important considerations in the big picture of health. By acknowledging each of these factors, Brittany works to foster positive and sustainable relationships with food and help clients achieve their goals through individually tailored advice.

General nutrition, weight management and chronic disease management are all areas of interest for
Brittany, with a particular interest in gut health and sports nutrition. In 2019 she will be completing a
Sports Nutrition Course to become an Accredited Sports Dietitian.

In her free time, Brittany enjoys spending time with family and friends, roaming nurseries for new
plants, and getting out in the sunshine or into the gym for a good sweat session.

  • Sports Nutrition– with a background in competitive bodybuilding, Emma knows firsthand how important nutrition is for gaining muscle as well as altering body composition.

Emma has always had a keen interest in food and nutrition and knew she wanted to be a dietitian from a young age. She played representative netball for many years and it was then that she discovered her passion between sports and nutrition.

Emma is a passionate and enthusiastic dietitian who loves to help people and see people achieve their goals in a realistic manner. Whether it be weight loss, muscle gain, body composition, gut health – she absolutely loves to help and strives to help her clients the best way she can!

She believes in moderation within the diet and that food is the epitome of life! Emma loves to educate people on nutrition basics and loves to myth bust by providing evidence-based nutrition knowledge to her clients.

In her spare time, you will find Emma training at the gym preparing for her body building competitions, out enjoying meals with friends and family or getting a walk in and enjoying the sunshine at the beach.
